88 Korean Draftees Tested HIV Positive in Past 5 Years

A total of 88 new military recruits were tested positive for HIV testing at
the boot camp in the last five years, according to a report submitted to
Grand National Party lawmaker Kim Hyo-jae Friday by the Military Manpower
Administration, JoongAng Ilbo reported Saturday. The number of new conscripts
who tested HIV positive was 15 in 2004, 22 in 2005, 26 in 2006, 18 in 2007
and seven as of June this year, according to the document. All of those
tested positive were judged unqualified to serve in the military and sent
home.
